Board of Education Reports of the State of Illinois
The Board of Education of the State of Illinois was the first governing board of the then Illinois State Normal University. The board was convened in an informal meeting on March 26th, 1857 and put into motion numerous plans for establishing a new Normal School in the state of Illinois. The Board chose Bloomington to be the school's new home and eventually chose Charles E. Hovey to be school's first Principal, now known as the President. The board became the Normal School Board in 1917. The following board reports cover the creation, development, and early operations of Illinois State Normal University.
The digitization of these board reports were made possible with support from The Friends of Milner Library and the Illinois State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the federal Library Services and Technology Act.
These reports can be found by searching Milner Library's institutional repository, ISUReD. Researchers can access a complete listing of board reports in ISURed. When looking at submissions for a particular year, be sure to look at the bottom of the page for additional submissions. These will typically be board reports for the second half of the submission year.
