Digitization Center Services & Pricing
The Milner Library Digitization Center at Illinois State University provides archival quality digitization services for the University community, external researchers, and the public.
Discounts & Pro Bono Work
- Illinois State University graduate students, faculty, and staff requesting digitization for educational purposes or to advance the mission of the university may ask to receive digitization of a limited amount of material free of charge, including up to
- 20 image of original material that is smaller than 11 x 17 inches
- 10 images of original material that is larger than 11 x 17 inches and smaller than 40 x 60 inches
- Additional free work may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
- Digitization undertaken for the purpose of providing public access to material in ISU ReD or other Milner Library collections is also free of charge. Projects of this nature are accepted solely at the discretion of Milner Library.
- ISU graduate students, faculty, and staff, operational units, and external non-profit organizations receive a 30% discount on paid digitization services.
Prices
Please note that the Milner Library Digitization Center does not offer same-day service. Requests will be processed in the order in which they were received. Most clients receive their files within a week but larger requests may take longer.
Image capture
Bound volumes or loose documents
- Up to 11 x 17 inches
- Includes OCR (Optical character recognition to make text in images computer-readable)
- $0.50 per capture
Negatives, slides, photo prints, and artwork
- Up to 11 x 17 inches
- $2.00 per scan
Large format
- Up to 40 x 60 inches
- Includes OCR, straightening, cropping, and minor color adjustments
- Please be aware that it may be necessary to make multiple scans of the same material to ensure all areas are in focus. Clients will be charged for all scans used to create the final composite image
- $10 per scan
Special handling
- Includes image manipulation, correction, and restoration
- Large or complicated orders may incur a special handling fee for project management
- Billed in 6-minute increments
- $40 per hour
Shipping
- All material will be shipped via UPS. Clients will be provided with package tracking numbers
- $7 per package (additional fees may apply for oversize items)
- Shipping is only available for return of clients’ personal items.
Payment
Clients will receive an itemized invoice for digitization, printing, and shipping services. Invoices must be paid before files and/or prints are released. Payment may be made by credit/debit card or a check made out to Illinois State University.
