Milner Library is a congressionally designated Federal Depository Library providing free public access to government information to Illinois State University and the general public. Milner Library has also made a commitment to the Government Publishing Office, the Federal Depository Library Program, and the National Collection of U.S. Government Public Information, to serve as a Preservation Steward to retain tangible (print) depository resources in perpetuity so that the public can rely on those collections as sources of Federal Government information for generations to come. Milner Library is also a member of the Illinois Documents Depository Program. Together the federal and state government collections support the curricular and research needs of the University and community with up-to-date and historic resources reflecting all aspects of government activity.
Government information includes primary and secondary sources covering a wide range of subjects such as art, business, criminal justice, education, energy, environment, international relations, health, labor, laws and regulations, nutrition, and science and technology. They encompass a variety of formats including books, journals and magazines, maps, posters, and kits. The Federal Government Information collection is located on the fourth floor of Milner Library.
