For this project, students in Professor Claire Lieberman’s Sculpture II – ART 233 course explore creating site-specific pieces. That is, a sculpture or installation for an actual place of their own choosing.
Their individualized concepts engage unique qualities of space, light and form, and connect with visitors to the library in diverse ways from a hanging sculpture installation in the stairwell to mixed-media pieces in a glass case to a group of freestanding objects. Students worked closely with Milner Library's exhibits program committee to select locations and install their sculptures. This project presents a great opportunity to think outside the conventional “white box” gallery space and consider the ways their viewers may interact with their artwork.
