Professor Claire Lieberman’s Sculpture II students observe people frequently studying under trees outside. Collaboratively they decided to create an inviting experience indoors in the form of an interactive sculpture. Bringing the idea of nature indoors allows tension to melt away. The tree is steel the students heated, bent, and welded together. Pictorially, it refers to Bonsai trees. The deck is made of wood, much like a deck you would find in someone’s yard.
"Visually, we want to combine natural form with an industrial aesthetic. Our deeper idea is to create a place with a sense of tranquility."
