In participation with the State Archives of Illinois, the university hosts an arm of the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD). ISU is one of seven universities that are part of the IRAD system.
Each university in the IRAD system houses records from their surrounding local counties, townships and municipalities. These records can include birth, marriage, death, deed, probate, and tax records. The ISU IRAD arm holds records from these fourteen counties:
- Champaign
- DeWitt
- Ford
- Grundy
- Iroquois
- Kankakee
- Livingston
- Logan
- Marshall
- McLean
- Piatt
- Tazwell
- Vermilion
- Woodford
Researchers may make inquiries by phone or by mail. We regret that we cannot accept queries via e-mail at this time. Be sure to include the following information when making a research request either by phone or by mail:
- Name of person(s) to be researched
- The county to research for that person(s)
- Years of the event (approximations or exact years)
- The type of document you are looking for (birth, death, probate, etc.)
If you are looking for information for counties not listed, try the IRAD Regional Map and Contact Information page to see the list of counties housed at other participating universities.
