Milner Library Posted Communications Policy
Posted Communications within Milner Library
No communications (e.g. signs, flyers, posters, etc.) may be posted or displayed within Milner Library without prior review and approval by the Dean of Milner Library. Please submit materials for review and approval to:
- Dallas Long, at milnerevents@IllinoisState.edu or (309) 438-3139, or the Office of the Dean of University Libraries on the 3rd floor.
Content must relate to an event, exhibit, or other programming taking place at or sponsored by Milner Library. The communication piece must include an accommodation statement, which must include the direct contact information for who to contact to arrange the accommodation. Other content will be considered under special circumstances.
Signage that is posted or displayed within Milner Library without prior review and approval will be removed by library employees.
Signage on Lobby Bulletin Boards
Materials whose content is not associated with Milner Library may be posted or displayed on the general bulletin boards in the lobby of the main entrance to the south of the revolving doors. Prior review and approval by the Director of Communication and Outreach is not required.
Do not remove, deface, or obscure existing signage.
Remove your signage after 14 days of posting or display.
Milner Library reserves the right to remove signage from bulletin boards at any time if the content promotes, advertises, or otherwise advocates illegal activity or violates any Illinois State University, state, or federal laws and/or policies. This includes alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and/or other commercial endorsements of similar products.
Persons with concerns about hate or bias in signage may report concerns to the Director of Communications and Outreach, the Inclusive Community Response Team at icrt@IllinoisState.edu or (309) 438-2008, or the Office of the Dean of Students.
Table Tents
Table tents are not permitted in Milner Library.
Indoor Clings
Clings must be reviewed and approved by the Director of Communications and Outreach prior to design and installation. Units requesting the cling must arrange and pay for the design, installation, and deinstallation of clings.
Content must relate specifically to an Illinois State University-sponsored event or activity and only University-sponsored groups are allowed to request.
Cling locations must be approved prior to the design of the clings and may be hung only from the following locations in Milner Library:
- Elevator doors
- Windows that do not obscure exits
- Other area may be considered on a case by case basis
Digital Communications
University-affiliated groups and offices can request images be added to Milner Library’s digital displays. Requests should be submitted two weeks prior to requested posting and approval is at the discretion of the Director of Communication and Outreach. Submission requests can be emailed directly to milnerevents@IllinoisState.edu. Requests should include date posting and removal dates, and content will not be kept up for longer than four weeks.
Chalking
Chalking on the exterior of Milner Library or on its outdoor furniture is strictly prohibited. Washable chalking on the horizontal surfaces of the plaza is permitted but may require approval from the Bone Student Center.
Posted Communications in Non-Public Library Areas
Communications posted or displayed by Milner Library employees within their workspaces or on their office doors, walls, and windows are permitted without prior review and approval but must be in accordance with applicable building codes and Illinois State University, state, or federal laws and/or policies.
Communications posted or displayed on the bulletin boards on the non-public Floor 1 hallways and employee lounge are permitted without prior review and approval, but must be in accordance with applicable building codes and Illinois State University, state, or federal laws and/or policies.
