Milner Library Intellectual Freedom Policy

Introduction

Milner Library is the central library for Illinois State University. As its primary mission, Milner serves the informational needs of the Illinois State University community and the general public. Milner Library supports freedom of expression and access to information that encourages creative and scholarly pursuit.

Rights of Milner Library Patrons

All Milner Library patrons have the right to access library materials and resources.

In accordance with state law, Milner Library does not ban or otherwise limit access to materials based on partisan or doctrinal objections.

It is not appropriate or practical for Milner Library staff to monitor its patrons’—including minors’—usage of library materials based on content.

Milner Library endorses the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement of the American Library Association (ALA) as interpreted by the ALA’s Intellectual Freedom Committee in full.

Library patrons are expected to follow applicable campus policies, such as the Intellectual Property Policy and the Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy.
