Children's Literature

BrowZine is a web-based service and app for Apple or Android smart phones and devices that helps you browse through scholarly e-journals available from Milner Library. BrowZine sorts our e-journals into broad disciplines and then into narrower subjects. You can save and organize your most-used e-journals on virtual bookshelves in your account. The result is an easy and familiar way to browse through, read, and monitor scholarly e-journals across disciplines.

    Children's Literature Review
Presents full-text literary criticism on writers and illustrators for children and young adults. Critical essays are selected from leading sources, including published journals, magazines, books, monographs, reviews, and scholarly papers.

Select this database under "More Options" in the drop down menu by "Product Series."

    Contemporary Authors
Contemporary Authors offers continuous access to current biographical and bibliographical data on more than 120,000 authors from the nineteenth century to the present. Easily search for an author by name, title of work, subject/genre, nationality, date and place of birth, honors, awards and much more.

    Naxos Spoken Word Library
Concentrating largely on literary classics and educational themes, Naxos Spoken Word Library offers audio version of literature and poetry, ranging from medieval times to the twentieth century. Adobe Flash is the default player for the streamed audio files. NOTE: Only five (5) people can access this resource at one time. If you see a "maximum users reached" message, please try again later.

Minimum requirements:
Flash Version: Minimum 9.0.60. 10 recommended.
Browser: Internet Explorer 7+, FireFox 2+, Safari 2+, Chrome (any version with Flash support)
OS requirements: Any OS that can meet the browser and Flash requirements

    NoveList Plus
A readers' advisory tool that helps readers find new books based on books they've read or topics in which they are interested. Book reviews are provided by the American Library Association's reviewing journal Booklist. ncludes both fiction and non-fiction for many children and young adult books. Also includes reading level indicators (Lexiles) for readability.

    Something about the Author (SATA) vol. 1, 1971 to present
Something about the Author examines the lives and works of authors and illustrators for children and young adults and is a preeminent source on authors and literature for young people. Something About the Author Online includes more than 217 volumes, 12,000 entries, and nearly 17,000 images.
