Houseboat Girl is the story of nine year old Patsy Foster, her family and their life on a Mississippi River houseboat. Patsy has mixed feelings about living on a houseboat. She likes the constantly changing scenery and the freedom she feels on the river. But Patsy longs to live in a permanent house, to stay in one place.

Houseboat Girl recounts the day-to-day adventures of river life through the eyes of nine year old Patsy. She learns to swim in the river, how to read river maps, and how to deal with many different kinds of people. Patsy learns many lessons about herself, other people and other ways of living.

Patsy is a spunky girl who enjoys her many adventures of river life. She finally gets her wish to live in a permanent house along the Mississippi River where she can enjoy the best of both worlds.
