Copyright Services

What is copyright?

Copyright is the form of expression of ideas and the fixation of that form in some sort of medium. The ideas themselves are intellectual property. These are some of the ways Milner can assist users in understanding their rights and responsibilities when it comes to copyright.

Fair Use Assessment

  • Advising if permission-for-use is required for scholarly materials by faculty and students in the course of research, teaching and communicating scholarship. This non-legally binding advisement service is available for all whether faculty, students—in particular graduate students—staff, or in limited fashion, community members.
  • Help patrons identify the rights holders and navigate the permissions that enable use of copyright-protected materials.

  • Support of Illinois State University faculty, students, and staff in understanding copyright and applying copyright principles in their work, course materials, and scholarly communications.

Scholarly Communication

  • Assist authors with licensing and copyrights in publication, deposit into ISUReD (the Institutional Repository)
