I-Share Loan Policies

As a CARLI/I-Share member library, Milner Library adheres to the I-Share Library Resource Sharing Code. Specific details about standard I-Share borrowing polices are found in Appendix A.

New I-Share policies take effect on January 5, 2012.  On that date, block thresholds will be activated.  The thresholds listed below will restrict a patron from performing I-Share requests, checking out I-Share books, or renewing I-Share books until the blocking condition is resolved.

Thresholds that will cause a patron to be blocked are:

  • 25 I-Share items overdue
  • 1 I-Share item recalled and overdue
  • 3 I-Share items lost
  • 10 "forgiveness" claims
  • 10 I-Share items self-shelved (returned to library shelf without being checked in)
  • $200 total unpaid I-Share fines or fees

The thresholds count only a patron's combined transactions across all non-ISU I-Share libraries.  Any local transactions at ISU with ISU's own materials are not counted against the thresholds.

This change of policy does not affect the loan periods or renewals of Milner Library items you have checked out or will check out in the future.  Please see our Circulation Policies page for a listing of relevant loan periods, or by calling the circulation desk at 309-438-7321.

Fines and bills from other I-Share Libraries

Milner Library borrowers are subject to the loan and fine policies of the institution from which they have borrowed the material. All Illinois State faculty, graduate students, staff, and undergraduates may be charged overdue fines, processing fees, and lost book charges by the lending library for failure to return or renew material by the due date.

The I-Share Resource Sharing Code obligates us to assist the lending library in securing the return of overdue materials and the payment of any charges associated with late renewals or returns or lost or damaged material. Lending libraries may request that we suspend the borrowing privileges of our patrons who fail to return or renew materials when due, who fail to return recalled material promptly, or pending their receipt of payment for overdue fines, billing fees, or lost book charges.

Milner Library is unable to mediate with other libraries in the matter of fines or replacement fee disputes, however, we will assist our patrons by initiating shelf checks for charged materials, both locally and at the lending library. In the matter of fine disputes the patron will need to contact the lending library directly. Contact information for Patron Billing Managers for each library can be found by choosing the relevant institution from the list of I-Share Members.
