School Librarianship Program: Typical Schedule of Classes

 

Required Courses

Students must complete the following courses as part of the program, totaling 21 credit hours:  TCH 414, TCH 416, TCH 440, TCH 442, TCH 444, TCH 445, and TCH 449 or TCH 454.  

An approved elective from the list below can be chosen to complete the remaining three credit hours.  

Fall Semester

TCH 449: Selection and Use of Materials for the Elementary School Library 

TCH 444: Reference and Information Services 

TCH 414: Introduction to School Librarianship 

Spring Semester

TCH 445: Information Literacy Instruction for School Libraries


TCH 454: Selection and Use of Materials in the Secondary School Library

TCH 414: Introduction to School Librarianship 

Summer Semester

TCH 440: Management of School Library Media Programs 

TCH 442: Organization and Access to Information in the School Library 

TCH 416: Technology and the School Library

Elective Courses  

Students may also complete one of the following elective courses as part of the 24 credit hours required for endorsement as Library Information Specialist.

TCH 432: Instructional Technology Design
TCH 434: Instructional Courseware Design
TCH 438: Distance Learning
ENG 370: Studies in the Literature of Young People
ENG 372: Contemporary Literature for Young People
ENG 373: Verse for Children
ENG 374: Storytelling
ENG 375: Studies in Literature for Adolescents
ENG 470: Studies in Children's Literature

Prerequisites 

Prerequisites for all of the courses are: “Certified teachers or consent of instructor."
